Process, Licensing Info, & FAQs

Process
Efficiency & versatility, start to finish
01
Take a look
You're halfway to a great start working with Shandri Photo! The first step is to determine which services you need to represent your work. Still photos? Drone aerials? Social media clips? We've got you covered.
02
Schedule Request
The next step is to request an appointment! Fill out the form with property address, contact info, property details, & desired services, and I'll reach out to confirm time!
03
Prep
This appointment should be treated like a showing- Before the shoot, we need to make sure the property will be ready. Read this Prep Guide and Policies, noting that Shandri Photo requests all occupants to leave the property during the photo appointment, all pets contained, and all cars removed from driveway.
04
Delivery
After the shoot, I'll work on creating your files. Expect an email announcing they're ready the day following the appt. (Need same day? Notate that on the Schedule Request Form!) Pay using the link in the email, and you can download files immediately!

Image Licensing
Photo licensing, or "permission granted to use digital images", can be a complex and confusing topic. but there are a few important details to keep in mind when working with digital products.

Ownership vs Licensing
Simply using purchased images from Shandri Photo & Media does not grant ownership; the copyright remains with the original creator (Andrea Shandri). In purchasing these images, you are thereby granted licensing for use on the MLS or perpetual licensing for images that will be used indefinitely for marketing or portfolio building. This is why perpetual-use licensing is at a higher cost than limited-use licensing... they'll be used for a longer amount of time and are more 'market valuable' than when a set of images are used for a finite amount of time on the MLS.
Why do I need permission?
If you purchased images, it's common to ask why you wouldn't own them. But like explained above, ownership and licensing are two distinct terms with different permissions. As the copyright owner of an image, I have to state how one can use an image received from Shandri Photo: when you license an image, you do not have the ability to sell or give away a digital product that you don't own. This means that if someone you work with would also like permission to use these images, they can also purchase licensing.

What can I do with images?
As a license-holder, you can use them based on the licensing you've purchased. If you're a realtor, you can post them anywhere for the purpose of marketing the property you are selling. You can share them on social media, post them to Zillow et al, and print them on your marketing materials. You may not give them to other realtors to use in the event of a contract transfer or give them to the builder or other tradespeople for their use.

Alternatively, if you purchased a perpetual license, you can post them on your website and print materials for an infinite amount of time. Still, you may not give them to any other agency without expressed written approval.

Consequences of using a photo without proper licensing
Ignoring copyright rules and licensing agreements can lead to serious legal consequences, including fines and potential lawsuits. When images are used without proper permission, the original creator can take action to protect their intellectual property, which may result in costly settlements.

-
What are your operating hours?I shoot M-F, 8a - 2p. I then edit and ensure your images are visually as perfect as possible, delivering by 9a the next morning. Same-day delivery is possible, just notate on the schedule request form!
-
What style of shooting / editing do you have?Because I edit mostly myself, I have full control over image editing. I shoot with a flash, while allowing as much natural light in as possible. Depending on the home, you may see a standard real estate look with wide angles and lights on, or a more editorial vibe with tight vignette shots / lights off.
-
Why don't you want sellers present?I prefer to shoot by myself for efficiency and efficacy reasons. Even if they don't mean to be, sellers can be in the way, get in shots, and end up reflecting in surfaces that cost me editing time. To produce the best images possible, I have a very specific shot list that I need to fulfill - there's a chance I'll forget something if I'm continuously asked questions or asked to reshoot areas, and I can't have someone turning lights off behind me when I'm still shooting an area :) If sellers must be present, I'll do what I can to make the process as stress-free as possible, though!
-
Can realtors be present in the home while you shoot? The easy answer is yes. I totally understand wanting to make sure the house is ready for photos but that should be done before the appt time. There is rarely a situation that I cannot handle on my own, especially turning on lights or opening blinds. Also - it's helpful when I have flexibility in appointment time. Because there really isn't much of a reason for a realtor to be there at the same time as I'm shooting, it could present issues if I have to wait for someone to come to the appt time just so they can walk around with me. One note- if sellers won't leave and the realtor senses a potential safety issue, I'd love your help with that situation. Feel free to come!
-
What is your policy on pets?Sellers should treat this like a showing. They should plan on leaving with their dogs / cats, or have them safely kenneled in an area I will not be accessing. I should not be met at the door with a barking dog, and cats can take a long time to corral when scared. It's really stressful for everyone, including pets, if they are not put away a few minutes prior to my arrival.
-
How long are your appointments? For a standard shoot, I schedule 30 minutes; adding drone or packages with larger image delivery usually adds an extra 30 min. Commercial shoots or editorial shoots can take 30 min - an hour.
-
What's the difference between real estate and commercial? These two categories determine how I shoot, what I deliver, and different price points with end user usage. Real estate is quicker to shoot and I deliver lower res images used for the MLS, therefore, it's a cheaper service. When I shoot commercially, my whole mindset is different. I have multiple lenses, multiple flash, and I shoot in a very different style- methodically and slower. Editing is also slower - these images will be looked at very closely so I want to make sure every detail is paid attention. The end result is a higher end product because these images are used for a much longer time period, on a grander scale, to a larger audience.
-
Do you offer same day? Most of the time your images will be delivered either same day or by the following morning- it just depends on how many shoots I have in a given day. If you need guaranteed same-day service, you can purchase that on the schedule request form.
-
For residential real estate, how many images do I get? What areas do you shoot?A standard home usually produces 30 - 35 images. I usually shoot all four angles of main living and kitchen spaces, 2 angles of subsidiary living spaces, and one of each bathroom / laundry. Primary bedroom gets two shots to show window and ensuite bath, and subsidiary bedrooms gets one shot from the doorway. Unless directed otherwise, I skip storage and garage areas. Remember - there is no 'switching' of images on standard real estate shoots unless asked beforehand!
-
I'm a stager - can I use the images the realtor paid for?I would be honored to have you use images taken by me! Feel free to share anything you see on social media - just tag Shandri Photo & Media please. If you'd like to purchase usage rights for full res images for print or website usage, contact me!
-
As a realtor, I paid for a spec home to be shot for the MLS. Can I send those to the builder so he can use them?Your license grants usage for the purpose of selling the home. If he would like to use them for marketing or on his website, he'll need to contact me to purchase a perpetual-use license.
-
Can I share your images to my real estate social media page?Sure! You can either share via the link I provide or at minimum, tag my Shandri Photo & Media business page please.
-
I can't get the lockbox to the property before the appointment. What should we do?I am happy to use a garage code or access a hidden key if sellers can hide one in an accessible spot.
-
My sellers aren't available to have you shoot until early evening. Is this possible?Sellers should treat this appointment like a showing - they should plan to be gone; however, if they want to be there because they won't be able to have the house ready until then, we should schedule for the next morning.
-
I'm a realtor and I can't be at the shoot. How can I know it'll be ready if you're by yourself?Feel free to check the status of the property ahead of time to ensure it's ready. Preparing your sellers to meet your expectations is also crucial in these circumstances. If there are one or two things you're worried about, feel free to explain in the notes section of the schedule request and I'll do what I can!
-
My sellers can't leave because they work from home. Can we still shoot?Of course. Although I prefer sellers to vacate during the appointment, as long as they are hidden in an office or on a different floor from me, that's fine! Please remember they must have cars out of the driveway, and pets put away.
